Make sure you take your earrings off some days to the wedding - why???!?

I have a gift of sentimental value given to me by my dear mother - A pair of earrings! I always have my earrings on, and unless I attend an important event that requires looking ........, those earrings appears to be permanently on. I go to bed wearing them and I wear them while I'm in the shower. That's not the issue.

A few days ago, a Ghanaian lady whom I work with enquired about my wedding dates, and I thrillingly replied saying, the 20th and 21st of November 2015. Then she looked at my ears, and said that she noticed that my earrings are always on. She however advised that I should take my earrings off a few days to the wedding because where she comes from, brides take their earrings off a few days to their wedding because it makes them look more beautiful!

I still do not understand. How does taking your earrings off a few days to the wedding make you look more beautiful? I don't think it makes any difference to be honest with you. Maybe, she's right because being an older woman might mean she's experienced. Please, where in Ghana is that practised????
